Is Sukumar a bigger brand in US than Koratala?
The result and collections of 2018 summer releases whilst good for Tollywood were also surprising for the trade circles as Rangasthalam which was expected to end around the 90 crore mark went on to become the non-Baahubali industry hit while Bharath Ane Nenu which was expected to become the non-Baahubali industry hit fell short of the number by a margin.
While many factors played key part for these movies’ collections, we are only interested in the US cordon now.
It is already known that Mahesh Babu has a clear edge over Ram Charan Tej as far as the US market is concerned and everyone expected Mahesh to dominate Charan and Rangasthalam right from the premieres of the film Bharath Ane Nenu and with it securing a positive talk, the discussion started only about the margins of dominance.
But to the dismay of Mahesh fans, the movie fell short of Rangasthalam on most of the days in comparison and finally also ended up collecting less than Rangasthalam in full run. Given that Bharath Ane Nenu had better ratings than Rangasthalam is more of an embarrassment to Mahesh fans.
And this now has bought up another discussion on the content and the brand value of directors in the US.
The US market is mostly content driven and movies with content fetch superb numbers here when compared to any other domestic territory. And directors who deliver decent to good content enjoy some following here. While Rajamouli and Trivikram lead the pack here, Koratala and Sukumar also are brand names here with Koratala not tasting a flop till date and Sukumar known to deliver offbeat content. While Sukumar’s highest until Rangasthalam was NTR’s Nannaku Prematho which minted 2M$+, Koratala’s highest was Srimanthudu which stood at a tall 2.8M$+, also the non-Baahubali highest until Rangasthalam.
Given the result of the full runs of the movies, is Sukumar a bigger brand than Koratala in the US? So much so that he cuts off the Mahesh edge over other heroes here? What do you think?Follow us for more.
